On November 3rd, 2003 the bodies of REALTORS
Cynthia Williams of Acworth and Lori K. Brown of Powder
Springs were found at a new construction site in the Oakwind
Sub-division of Powder Springs. Their bodies were found
around 1:00pm in the Morrison Homes model sales office by a
contractor in this out-of-the-way area of Cobb County.
Williams, 33 was shot twice and apparently strangled, Brown,
21 was shot once. A black
Durango was reportedly seen driving from the scene. News of
their deaths spread throughout the local Atlanta REALTOR
community leaving agents feeling vulnerable.
According to news from the Atlantic Journal-Constitution, a
police affidavit indicated the women’s ATM cards had been
used to verify their pin numbers prior to their deaths.
Over the next 12 hour period, their cards were used twice to
take money from the women’s accounts.
30 year old Parolee Stacey Ian Humphreys of Dunwoody was
arrested and faces the death penalty for this double
homicide after being indicted by a grand jury in February,
2004. Humphreys was captured near Milwaukee after police
used technology to trace his cellular telephone to that
area. His arrest followed a high speed chase at speeds up
to 100 mph through two counties, involving 4 police
departments over a 34 mile area. A 9mm Ruger semiautomatic
found on Humphreys when he was arrest has been linked to the
deaths of the agents.
