We've all heard the old adage
that there is safety in numbers. We've also
all heard of neighborhood watch, a program where
homeowners look out for each others property.
How about block watch? Another program where
parents look out for any child returning home from
school to ensure kids get home safely. These
same philosophies holds true when we talk about real
estate safety.
The Multiple Listing Service
is an example of how teamwork helps promote the
business of real estate sales. It's an
important part of our daily planning when we list
and sell homes. This same philosophy can be
used in the development of safety practices and can
be as vital to an agents success in the market.
Relying on members of your local real estate
community can increase your safety dramatically.
Here are a few tips you can use:
Use a Buddy System
- Have someone that you speak with daily that knows
what your plans are for the day. Tell them who
you are with, where you are going, and when you will
be back. Check in with them intermittently and
have them check in on you. Have a secret buddy
code that says things are not normal. Many of
us have used a buddy code with our children - it
works for them, why not us too.
Work Together
- When possible and practical, work with another
agent. Make your day enjoyable by touring
listings together, it's a great learning experience
to have that second opinion on the features, price
and functionality of a home. You will both
benefit professionally and you will work safer in
the process.
Talk to the Neighbors
- Introduce yourself to the neighbors of your listed
homes. Make sure they know what you drive.
Ask them to keep an eye on the home when they see
cars at the home that they don't recognize.
Involve them in the safety process. They have
a vested interest in maintaining property values on
their own street.
Educate Clients
- Clients have an extra
incentive to be involved in your safety program.
A violent crime occurring their home can have a
devastating effect on the value and marketability of
their home. Demonstrate to them how they can
assist in the process by following your Client
Safety Plan. It will become an important part
of their daily plan if they are coached effectively.

SAFETY TIP: Your RealGuard products are
designed to work together with other
RealGuard products that agents place in
their listed homes, making you a part of
their community alarm network. And
your RealGuard Personal Unit can be
programmed to activate a Buddy's car, and a
Buddy can activate yours if you choose.
Even when your Buddy is not available,
RealGuard can be "An Agent's Best
Friend! " |
